Pulled out a load of ivy from underneath the chaenomeles which was starting to creep out into the borders, filled a black bin bag but there's still more under there!

I carried on digging out Vinca (and Ivy!) from the site of the pear tree. My husband worked on the stump, and has cut it off below ground level. There are still huge roots visible, each as thick as the trunk was. We'll have to dig out the soil along each one and see if his chainsaw will handle them. I had to saw off rather large branches of roses from the fence - definitely dead. Then I tackled the brambles coming over the fence. Ouch! I've filled the trailer three times with all the debris, and had two enormous bonfires! Sadly, although I've tried to rescue smothered plants, they are past saving and several have been trodden down in this mammoth task, so I must bite the bullet and start with a cleaned up area. I've ordered two trees - to be collected in a few weeks' time...a Liquidamber styr. 'Lane Roberts' and a Cornus 'Eddie's White Wonder'. I've also researched shrubs, and will order a couple later - an Elsholzia stauntonii and a Clerodendron trichotomum.

Had a good check on everything growing in the greenhouse and gave water to those plants in need of it. The cold weather and lack of sunshine seem to have checked growth again, though.

Still working on the area where the pear tree was. Dug out any plants that were possible to save and potted them up, then carried on digging...and digging...I took three trugs of small roots and twigs to the trailer as well as several clumps of Iris foetidissma. OH got me three bags of dried manure so I can feed the soil, but it's nowhere near ready for that yet. It's a huge area now it's clear-ish.

having a trailer is a godsend geranium. I make regular trips to the tip and always a full load. Anything I can shred though gets recycled back into the garden. Spotted new growth appearing on the Acer so it has survived its fifth winter here now Washing more pots in the sink Might be sunny but still too cold for me to do it outside

I`m replacing the polycarbonate on the far side of the greenhouse roof ( if you recall the company sent replacements when it started disintegrating after only 2 years ) . bit of a waste of time really as the sides front and back are yellow and will need replacing next year.

Pruned the roses, I couldn't believe it when I was doing one of the little climbers by the front door, the tips were covered in aphids already! Cleaned out & topped up the pond & water feature pot & as soon as I finished the blackbird dived in for a swim & a long bath & the robin was flitting around watching him & waiting for his turn!

Collected another three bags of horse manure and spread on allotment no.1. Hoed some weeds off and checked over onions and cabbage planted last week.
