Dead-headed & watered the hanging baskets - even though there were some showers there hadn't been enough rain on them to wet the surface. Pricked out & potted up 2 red cherry & 1 yellow delight tomato plants & put a yellow courgette plant out into the greenhouse to harden it off a bit, hopefully there won't be any slugs in there or I'll go in there today & find just a stump in a pot! Ordered 85 free summer bulbs from G.World/Hayloft.

Started digging out my new herbaceous border. Managed about half and decided to leave the rest 'til later. Then realised all the container plants needed watering as it has been quite dry of late. Then it was cup of coffee and a kitkat. If I remember I'll take a pic to show what I'm doing.

did the last of the main borders, cleared out leaves in the pond, along with one or two newts who were safely put back again, got rid of loads of duckweed. Then attacked round the bird feeder, with all the rain we had there's no grass left just a layer of wet smelly seed, all gone now, I've loosened the soil to help it dry out and will reseed it

That's a good idea to check the viability of seeds before you sow them jellibeans, I should have done that with my old chilli seeds. Nothing in the garden other than feed the birds & hedgehogs, I have ordered some more bird food online though as even our 'pound+' store has closed now due to the virus so I can't nip out there for more. Ordered a few plants online from Bluebell Cottage Garden as well as we probably won't be able to visit there this spring as we usually do, they're closed but doing good online sales.

I got out & cut down most of the old foliage etc. in the borders, only a tiny bit more to do in the back garden now but there is a fair bit of weeding to do as well & the grass could do with a cut.

Finished the second stage of my new border. The worst part was bending down to lif tout the weed roots but reasonably cleared now. went over it with the hand three pronged cultivator so now just leave it a few days and go over it again. 35' long and 2 1/2 - 3' wide so now have to think of what to fill it with. It is actually south facing and quite sheltered so any ideas from you lovely people would be welcome. The main objective is to brighten up the area so colour a priority. When I can visit the GC I will have a look and see what he has ready for planting. At least once it is underway I can always chop and change to suit. Might include some fuchsias, lavatera and maybe an acer but mainly perennials i think.

Thats a really good idea jellibeans I must try that. Sadly I used the very last of my peat based compost yesterday, mixed with perlite or vermiculite to make it go further it was really good for seed sowing. Now I`m using compost from Lidl to pot on seedlings and it looks and feels so course. yesterday I sowed about 20 packets of old sweet pea seed ( 2015-2018 ) they were already out of dat when I purchased most of them on ebay. I just threw them in a bed in the garden rather than bin them. Sowed a few more tomato seeds varieties and resowed a few flower seeds that hadn`t germinatd .

I sowed some seeds - tomatoes, Gardener's delight, Alicante and Roma and also a cherry type one, can't remember the name. Also some seeds of a thing called Cucumelon, don't know what they're going to be like, Also some peppers, and several flowers - Sweet Peas, Rudbeckia, L Daisies, etc, and Coleus. They are all in the propagators now. Also I started to tidy the patio, with the background noise of next door's "music" until I started banging things around, and then they turned it down.
