Yes it's a big job and I'm having a small extension built instead of the glass and perspex lean-to, and it will have a solid floor instead of decking. I'm having the old decking on the patio replaced with a new type of synthetic decking that doesn't loose its colour or get slippery, and it lasts for 30 years (that will see me out, I'll be over 100 !)
There's a drop under the decking because I live on a hill and the garden was originally lower than the house, therefore the decking has a drop under it, down to the old garden level.

That sounds lovely Eli. I think you might have been watching Garden Rescue. That type of decking is really good and considering that the price of wood jumped up like the gas prices have, it is very sensible.

That sounds lovely Eli I had a blitz at the front, of course next door isn't looking after the garden, so cut back a rhodo that was taking over by our gate, trimmed back my shrubs and weeded the side, weeded all the path down to the front gate, and mowed a strip of dandelions on the other side, this is a shared path to both houses and was looking really untidy which doesn't give our house a good look and I'm not prepared to live with it I really can't understand someone taking on a large garden and not bothering to do anything with it, the kids are feral and have totally trashed the back garden

Sounds like a nightmare grindle, is there no way you could put a fence up, even just a wire one, between you & put a new separate path on your side? We had a family like that renting next to us in our old house for about 5 years & they just used the garden as a dumping ground, the back garden was full of weeds & mud & at one time dog poo when they had a poor rottweiler who was just left out all day standing in it! Eventually I think the landlord said something & the guy just dug it over - complete with poo & laid turf over it - I think he even mowed it - once!

I can't understand why people don't keep their gardens tidy, it's part of the property the same as the inside ... but that is probably in a mess too with those people.
I have taken my Sweet Peas down now, they were full of greenfly, and so was I by the time I'd finished doing it Can't do anything else at the moment, even though the building is at the back of the house the whole garden is in turmoil

I'm afraid not SueA we have a smnall extension to the side which goes up to the path making it impossible, I do have a small one further down at the front of the house though. Yes Eli seems to be a trend this is the 3rd tennant like it. The elderly man that lived there when we moved in was wonderful and even at nearly 100 he always kept the property tidy. Was at my other garden yesterday, cut and edged the grass did some deadheading and cleared the driveway of weeds

The family who lived next to us had left the inside of the house as bad as the outside Eli & the landlord had to strip everything out & redecorate again but strangely I have seen houses around here where they look well decorated & cared for from what you can see through the windows but it looks like they just open the door & tip all their rubbish straight out into the garden! Hopefully they'll either move & you'll get someone who'll take more care or maybe their landlord will do something grindle? I weeded the drive as well yesterday & did a bit of dead-heading in the front garden, we have the gates open & I was crouched down & bent forward & suddenly felt something soft & fluffy at my back - a little dog had crept up behind me & wanted to say hello! He/she was on a lead & the owner said hello & called it back but not before I'd had a cuddle from it, the other dog with it is more stand-off-ish. I call them the 'twins' as they're 2 little curly grey terriers who live at the end of the cul-de-sac.

well at least they're nice, not like the last tennant SueA I started tidying the shed, the leftover pond liner had just been thrown in so I couldn't get past it, it's now folded and bagged ready to go in the loft, started giving compost corner a clear up then rain stopped play

I got 40 white viola plug plants in the post so I potted them up in lots of cell trays & put them in the greenhouse for now to help them bulk up a bit before I put them in the hanging baskets.

did more tidying, swept up leaves from the bay tree and reseeded the top bit of grass, not sure if it's too late, but maybe some will grow

I`m afraid I`m that neighbour who`s garden lets the street down , just didn`t manage to keep on top of it this year, even the front door is the worst in the estate . We are still attending our 10 weeks over 50`s allotment course (started Feb 2020 ). A few of us are just coming every week now and keeping the place ticking over, weeding and harvesting the remains of the beans and pumpkin and waiting on the sweet corn. I must take a few pics next week.

In between the showers yesterday I decided to put my wellies on & tackle the end of the garden around the pond. It was getting difficult to get down to the arbour because the plants have shot up down there, the Kiftsgate rose had sent out 8ft long stems right across the pond, the nettle patch I leave for caterpillars had shot up & out, the lysimachias were leaning over everywhere & weeds were shooting up. While I was down there the robin spotted me & appeared to serenade me, he hopped down the path right in front of my feet & sat on the edges of pots tweeting & whistling to me. I took a few mealworms in a jar lid out for him but he only ate a couple & then carried on hopping around with me, whilst I chatted back to him!

A pretty sad day today, as I left my allotment for the last time. I will have to cut the back lawn now, if it ever stops raining.
