To be honest KC, I've never weighed them, but they are much tastier then the bought ones and they scrape very easily. It also depends which potatoes you use, my best croppers have been Charlotte and Rocket

I'd probably go to Poundland too So how many potatoes do you harvest per bag with 4-5 potatoes planted? Sorry these must sound like dumb questions A forty litre sized bag should take 2/3 potatoes.... I usually put a little pelleted feed and some granular gel in the compost mix, to stop them drying out.
I have grown earlies in a 10l bucket, with drainage holes punched in base, one per bucket. You won't get as many or as large as if grown in ground, so earlies make the best financial sense.

They go out as soon as safe, but it brings forward the first taste of them, by about a fortnight.

Will be growing some this year but not sure what variety yet as only just decided I have some space to grow them as I am getting on with cleaning up some ground. Have grown many varieties over the years both for the kitchen and exhibition. One of my favourites is a 2nd early Vanessa. Sometimes wrongly classed as a 1st early. Anyway the old rule for planting is, 'Plant earlies late and lates, early'

Got two varieties today. 1st Early Nicola and 2nd early Pentland Javelin. I line the planting drill with grass cuttings and put the sets on that.

Thats meant to be a good idea sweetpea...only our grass doesn't need cutting yet, its hardly growing as it's so chilly.

W hat are 'geekies' and I thought 'loons' were ocean-going birds or 60's flared hipster trousers, sweetpea As with many things, some words have more than one meaning dianthus . in the dialect of North East Jockinese a loon is a boy (quean) a girl) and geekies are fish though I don't know what variety if any. Portsoy is a town with a harbour in case you didn't know that either. Oh and just to remain on topic, you can grow potatoes there too.
