What variety of daphne is it Joysie? It sounds like it is alive, but maybe has not flowered. All my daphnes were late this season and one has yet to flower, but if yours is going to bloom, you would see the flower buds which look quite pointed at the ends of the stems. It may not bloom until next year, depending on its age.

If they are still in green leaf you can heel them in somewhere in the garden out of the way. Either that or just discard them and get fresh in autumn.

I pass mine on to a friend who has a field and she's got bright clumps of my last year's tulips. I haven't got the space to plant them in my garden.
