That is exactly the same sort of cut in the leaves which one of my Philadelphus cuttings suffered. The bee is no longer about and the cuttings were not replaced this time. They are fine as I had to halve the leaves anyway.

Can anyone tell me why bees will sit comatose in the middle of a flower for hours at a time? I tend to worry about them They look totally dopey. I've seen two today in the garden - they look like two different types of bees too, though I don't know much about them - sitting for hours in a dahlia and a cosmos. They might still be there for all I know...

I think they do sometimes just have a snooze in a flower Bess - usually the males I believe (slacking off from their duties! : & they should be fine.

My bee neighbour has lost her bees. She is very upset and there are none in my garden either. Do you remember that she put newspaper between two small amounts to introduce them to each other? The paper would come out when they are used to the smell of each other. Well that has not happened and they have all disappeared. We were both bothered by hornets for the first time and I blame them after reading about their nasty habits. SueA and esther, you are interested in these insects and all wildlife, so would you please be observant and let me know if the bees are in your gardens. I will let my neighbour know tomorrow when we do the Macmillan Coffee Morning.

What a shame Cherry , I wonder if it was something to do with the 2 sets of bees not getting on? There are still one or two honey bees visiting the garden when the sun comes out but on the whole this year there haven't been as many honey bees as usual, we have had lots of bumblebees though.

I will tell Marion that when I see her tomorrow. She already knows that you can recognise different types of bees. I saw only one bumblebee and it was beautiful weather for bees.
