Oh nice photos do you get squirrels in your garden much then?

We only get the odd one every so often Bess so they're a lovely novelty rather than being a problem as some people consider them. There are quite a few in the nearby park though & there was a great photo on a local community website recently showing the outdoor gym equipment there with an inquisitive little squirrel peering up into the shot at the bottom of the frame!

Thanks shelldon , we do get them but I only see usually one grey squirrel every once in a while. I know they visit though because they hide nuts in the plant pots & they rip small branches off the conifer when they're jumping around.

I wish we had reds as well Rosie but I'm happy to get any wildlife. I've seen the squirrel again a few times this week, it's been climbing around on the arches trying to get at the various bird foods & has been pulling branches off the big conifer. Not sure if it's trying to build a nest in the tree again, it has done in the past but then doesn't seem to use it much.

Great photographs Sue We have too many grey squirrels round here, they do a lot of damage to the trees by pulling off the bark on the branches so they die, then when we get the strong winds the branches come down.

I am pleased that the squirrels have not come back this year. They eat the birdfood. However, my neighbour has a squirrel, which will soon be an ex-squirrel and we suspect it is one from here.

Watch out for Atticus dumping it's remains on your doorstep Cherry ! 'Our' squirrel seems to be a regular now so perhaps it is living in the conifer, the blackbird isn't too happy though as that's 'his' tree & I've seen one of the neighbourhood cats, the pretty fluffy-tailed one, sitting on the fence watching for it (the squirrel).

The squirrel is annoyed with me, last week it had thrown the empty squirrel feeder out of the tree & today it's thrown the peanut feeder out as the nuts were going a bit mouldy! I have been told - have to buy some new peanuts tomorrow!

I read somewhere recently that a red squirrel has been successfully treated for sqirrel pox and that they might, just might be developing a resistance to it. The grey squirrels are immune and are guilty of spreading the disease to the reds which has caused the dramatic fall in the red population.

I saw that too sweetpea , they featured the red squirrels at Formby where we go to see them on the news, they think the population there is bouncing back, it dropped off dramatically about 4 or 5 years ago & you hardly ever saw one when you went. I've put the peanut feeders back up today, cleaned & refilled, lets see how long it takes for him to throw them down again!

When I was putting the recycling out today I heard a strange noise down at the end of the garden & went to see what it was. One of the neighbourhood cats (Fluffy Tail, my name for her) was sitting on the wall by the tree looking up as the squirrle was upside down in the squirrel nut feeder with just his tail sticking out of the side of the lid scrabbling around in the nuts! I watched just to make sure the squirrel wasn't stuck & the cat didn't get him but they both eventually got fed up & ran off when it started raining again.
