I'm hoping to sow another lot in the spring, if I remember. I'd like to prolong the flowering period.

I suppose he has Tel. I do appreciate the honesty on this forum. Even our top growers are not always perfect and don't mind saying so.

good time now to sow your sweetpea seeds. I used to aim for the 2nd week in October but I feel with the climate on the warm it will be ok right up to early November. For outdoors in a coldframe. Not to worry if you miss as Jan. feb. sowing indoors is fine too as is March April May outdoors and in situ. After a long break from the forum thought i'd catch up on a few threads. My season was planned around my knee replacement which finally happened last wednesday...should have been November 23rd but i developed a kidney stone early november and they decided to wait for me to pass it first which i did on the 7th december...yes, i collected the offending rock for posterity's sake Unbelievable how such an object can cause such discomfort. Anyway, got out of hospital Saturday and sowed seeds on Sunday. Using a different method this year. Sowed 40 of each variety in 20 cell trays. Will leave them in there for about 3 weeks after germination, then they are going 6 into a 6 inch pot where they will be left until planting out. Should be easier to keep them watered that way. Rootrainers are fine but watering is more difficult using them and i need things to be as easy as possible. Varieties this year, based on last year are White Frills Eclipse Millenium Sir Jimmy Shand Zillah Harrod We shall see how they perform. Normally i start october time but as sweetpea says, our climate is definitely bringing them on faster so i would have delayed until november regardless of my knee op. Mid december is a first for me.

Finally managed to get the PC working again Hope you're new knee hasn't played you up too much scrumpy. my sis in Oz has just had that done and also lesley on the forum here. Hope its not catching SPRING SOWING of sweetpeas is a bit of a misnomer as you actually sow anytime in Jan or Feb indoors and plant out when they are ready. You can also sow direct from March through May and get results. I am hoping to get mine sown sometime around 3rd week of Jan. have grown all of your selection Scrumpy apart from Zillah Harrod. Not made a final decision yet on what to grow, depends on fitness nowadays.

Early days yet....perhaps we should start a minor surgery section

Get them seeds sown and ready for Wem....don't forget the nationals are there this year.

I made a hash of my SP's last year so will revert to 'Spencers' this year. I fancy 'Barry Dare' from Mr.Fothgill so will order a packet well.
