Thanks scrumpy and Mark. I Will take a couple of the bad leaves to the Kent dahlia show on Sunday in clear sandwich bags and see if someone can have a look as photographs no substitute to the real thing.
If virus then too bad Will bin all dodgey looking ones. Shame as was going to use some in the front garden next year and give some tubors to friends.
With capsid bug I am finding it only attacking certain dahlias. Dark foliage ones untouched. Also seems to be a problem more with the white semi cactus and decorative and also lilac decorative. Strange. As I have planted way to close together so would have thought it would attack all of them.
With the emulsifying agent what would you recommend?
On a different note have any of you ever tried compost tea ? Thinking of trying it next year as a natural boost for all my plants and soil.
Cheers
Raymond

Ian with spider mite would the tubors be harmed. This sir alf was grown from a pot tubor so should now be fairly big. If I was to lift it is it salvageable in terms of cuttings ? Or should I bin it completely. Also can any of you recommend another treatment for spider mite as ultimate bug killer I think is making it worse. This part of the garden there a lots of large shrubs and some box and also large trees behind so I think this is always going to be a tricky spot. Need to look into more natural treatments for next year. I did read about home made pepper spray sounds straight forward to make. You use fresh super hot chilli peppers and make a kind of tea with it and spray entire plant kills the spider mites and the eggs. But you have to keep reapplying it with a pressure sprayer. If to far gone then I Will get prepared well in advance next season. Many thanks for the advise everyone and also good luck to anyone competing judging and assisting in any shows this weekend and next. All the best Raymond

Going down to the allotment after Tea/Dinner, to see if there is anything for my local show, they do not really need to be that good for this show. The dahlia section is really a one man show these days.
