Mark been told it is very important just make sure that you know it is herbicide and chemical free. Look at Dave gillams youtube videos he uses it be generous. Andrew aspital also uses it.
I got the nds DVD through and Dave g shows you how he does it. Good DVD.
I am going with Mypex or similar as in formal garden straw looks to untidy. Still to decide if I will need some on top of it as in the south east it is a few degrees hotter.

and Clearview Sundance- one of the varieties in our trials. Flowering better now on later flushes and more breaks. Had very heavy centres earlier. Thought your comments about Sundance very interesting, my Dad grew it and had the same problem. Put him off growing it again. Disappointing.
Have you grown Clearview Audrey? Not fussed on that either which has loads of blooms. Both my Father and I haven't been able to show any because they aren't as good as Ryecroft Zoe, Ruskin Myra and Oakwood Goldcrest. The photos on their website are very good but difficult to tell until you grow them yourself. Ordered others from the US that haven't been a disappointment but not necessarily excel in the shows.
There are some good varieties from the US that have good features that fulfil the characteristics of classification classes but don't seem to break through because there are other dominant popular varieties that seem to always to win but technically don't fulfil the characteristics of a classification. I'm thinking of ball dahlias in particular.
n.b. I'm growing both Clearview Jenny and Candy Jayne but they're not the ones I mean. I grow these for fun, for me there is something quite satisfying seeing a dahlia that has had a tin of paint thrown at it. So much on here since I last logged on- having a job keeping up! No Moonlight we have not grown C Audrey. We have had a few varieties over the years sent across the pond by a contact over there. Very few of the ones that have been sent are up to the standard of the varieties bred over here with some exceptions. We have had over 30 varieties sent over in the last few years and only a couple of those are proving to be worth trying again. Also had some come from New Zealand- a couple of which look quite promising but they won't get a proper trial until next season as the tubers only came in at the end of May so had a late start. In the next couple of weeks we have 100 or so pot tubers to sort out and wash for inspection before sending them to New Zealand. 2 seasons ago some were seen on the show benches within 15 weeks if us sending them over!
Lou it was lovely to see you last week- just a shame about the weather! We still remain unscathed by the weather and had a few car loads of people still coming to look round the fields last weekend- chancing it a bit at this time of year and still expecting to see a good show but it has been dry for us apart from the odd shower last week. The beds are rather dry!
There has been talk on here of Clearview Edie which I saw at Wisley- don't think I have seen a photo on here of it but may be wrong but here is one I took. For those of you who don't know, this was new to the UK this year so likely to be couple of years before it is more widely available. Hoping to get some myself as it looks very impressive.
We will be preparing to lift our 6500 tubers- hopefully by the end of the month. Doing a final check and sort out and still deciding which of our trial varieties deserve another go and which will be destined for the compost heap!

dahliadave Clearview Edie was part of Andrew aspitals championship winning entry in Kent beating Dave Spencer. It is a cracking looking bloom. There was talk that when they master it it could surpass kenora challenger. Clearview Sundance also shown.

C Edie was also exhibited in the Terry Clarke at Wisley which I was judging along with Terry Bratcher, Dave Kent and Mike Cunningham. It is very promising! Dave Kent had also grown and shown it this season. Clear view Sundance was shown by Dave Kent last year and to be honest it looked a lot better then than any blooms I have seen this season. Will post the picture of last years vase when I get a chance.

Blimey Dave, 6500 tubers, lucky you've got a lot of helpers . That's still gonna take a long time, not to mention pruning, cleaning, drying, and then storing. I know how I feel after doing my lot, b***** knackered .
Good luck with all that!!!

Clearview Edie will need growing a lot better that that of Andrews if it is to beat Kenora Challenger. It looks to be a softer variety than Challenger looking at the exhibits at Wisley. I am sure someone will make a do of it. It is a welcome addition to the section and one I will be having a look at. One of the blooms of Andrews at Wisley looked good then spoilt the entry with a poor Challenger yes I accept it got him into the class! Interesting

Interesting Hi Ian aa was the first to admit his challengers this year where very poor. Let's see what happens with Edie. It is very soft as you say. I think you should try it In like the look of a Clearview small Dec called Debby. Lilac with lavender outline if it ever come here I would like to try it stunning colour.
