Not done the potatoes yet. Lawn is moved.
I've been in my greenhouse, picking away the soil and generally tidying up the roots. Some of them when I snipped the straggly ends off, looked like they might be alive still.:-) but some like my Gurtla Twilight, look so dehydrated. I feel like picking them up and dunking them in water. So I am going to have to ring my Dad before I do something stupid. I don't know where my mister sprays are, so it looks like I am going to be sitting my dry tubers in the compost.
I picked up my Weston Flamingo and spotted 1 woodlice. Managed to blow it off outside. Whilst putting it down, a bit separated and when I looked at it, had small shoots. Looked at the bigger bit and there are more there. So have at least one growing.
I think I had better ring my Dad before I do something a bit stupid with the water.
hmmm

I would soak the tubers in water, overnight Moonlight. Would you actually have them fully immersed or the stems sticking up? Currently my tubers are shivering without their mud / soil / compost covering, they are sitting on trays of compost but haven't been misted, need to get another one of those. So they are in situ but they haven't been properly done, so that I can sort them out tomorrow. The water will be warmer when I run their baths, if I do it in the daylight.
Feels so much better to be properly doing something.
Potatoes are planted.
We need to get some watering cans with rose heads. Wonder how far the US tubers have got their journey to reach here. Dad is getting eager.

When I soaked them in the past, I just put them in a container of water, then when I took them out just stood them upside down, just like you would after digging tubers up.

Enjoyed spending some time with my family.
While I was there Dad showed me his dahlias. Saw some of my tubers. Came home for lunch and just as I was waving bye to my Dad, spotted a small (and I mean small) parcel. Grabbed box and dashed back to my Dad who was turning into road and waved him down whilst pointing to the box (n.b. I wasn't waving the box itself). When Dad realised what I was doing, he stopped, drove car back and parked.
Tubers are very small again. No comparison between Dad's and theirs.
I don't have time to show you lots of photos but
That bag of vermiculite contains 7 tubers.

Bought a present for my Dad:
Blue Bayou
Although what he sees in those is beyond me.
(Excuse me the dahlia snob)

My Ruskin Myra from dcdahlia back right with my Weston Pirate in the middle. The Jomanda he took off my main Jomanda tuber which is here with me and my Weston Miss, front left which Dad thinks probably won't grow but happy to put him in the tub and wait and see. Nothing ventured and nothing gained.

My Staleen Condessa which I've given to Dad to keep. Lovely dahlia blooms, pity they were too tall for me to see what they looked like.

When I soaked them in the past, I just put them in a container of water, then when I took them out just stood them upside down, just like you would after digging tubers up. Gurtla Twilight and Willo's Violet having a soak in the bath. The tiny one is Gurtla which kept tipping up and lieing on it's stem, so I kept trying to tuck it up under the Willo's tuber.

Compare those with mine from Clearview. Clearview Audrey is one that my Dad wanted as well, so I'm hoping for a cutting. Clearview Jenny was the verigated dahlia that I ordered because I couldn't get hold of Candy Jayne which I am very happy about managing to get this year.
Dad offered to take them home and I took him up on it because it is their best chance for survival. He can regulate the temp and knows what he is doing, no shame there, makes sense (deep down I am disappointed but it is the logical decision. I've tried for 3 years to get hold of Candy Jayne bit of a waste not to get it to grow).

Dad's been round to get his present, too curious to wait until Tuesday. Thought he would be round before lunchtime.
He asked me ages ago that if I made a S.Raven order to order him one but I didn't fancy anything and the cost of 1 single tuber of £10 (with postage) didn't seem worth it. Glad I order it because he really liked it and has gone home to put it in with his others in the greenhouse. The tuber is a bit naff but who knows it might grow and worth the money.
Things like this really make me smile.
