Went through all the pot tubers today . Some I am really pleased with. Candy makes an excellent pot tuber as does zoe, winholm Diane, senzoe ursula, Mary's jomanda , Weston pirate of the others parkland rave, Hapet daydream and ad Abby make good pot tubers. I have taken out of the pots as they where very wet still. Only shook of show of the excess compost. Now drying out . Next year I will pot tuber in a bigger size pot and feed and water a little more. I have far to many to propagate from so will use these directly for plant sale and grow from the pot tuber itself.

I used 3inch pots this year but will use 4 or 5 inch instead next year. As I don't plant into the ground they are kept in trays.

Spent 4.5 hours on the train to Scotland changing , correcting and changing again my plans for 2016 ! Hahaha it will change again many times I am sure. One thing upping the numbers and less varieties. Still to many varieties but need to find a medium semi cactus that works for me and that I personally like let alone judges etc...

Moonlight I tried the following 8 hillcrest candy 3 Ruskin Michelle 2 grenidor pastelle 2 narrows Sonia 1 kenora sunset 1 peach delight 1 carston suntan 1 Allan snowfire 1 Stillwater brilliant only really a garden dahlia 1 staleen condessa Of these I would say the following where the best Candy Narrows Sonia Kenora sunset Ruskin Michelle My issue with candy is everyone grows it down here . Michelle is very small and I could not get the size. Takes the weather and the form is superb . Narrows Sonia has weak stems . Lovely bloom. Not a moonlight though. Kenora sunset my one plant gave me a full flush bang on and I won the open class bi colour with it beating all the westons. Again has rubbery stems . Needs a lot of potash. I have shortlisted Candy Narrows Sonia Ruskin Michelle think I know how to grow it better. Staleen condessa from fresh stock from iank I was also recommended Ruskin sunshine . Is a bad tuber maker though. So this I will leave for now. Kenora sunset I will hope to grow again but depends on space. I got the size on it. Spectacular bloom on the bench real eye catcher. Hillcrest candy I would grow again but some growers down here moving away from it to clayts candy . Lots of time to work it all out. Not commiting to any real big numbers not until I get my allotment. Then I might look at wisley/harrogate novices which I hope will be 2017 or 2018.

I know that you mentioned that everyone grows Candy but some growers are now growing Clayt's Candy. Which do you personally prefer? Surprised that you compared Narrow's Sonia with a Moonlight - I know that you've been told that you can't grow Moonlight your neck of the woods, did you see them to compare in a National show? As I've mentioned before I don't have much space and I really ought to specialise - less varieties but more of each. I grew 3 Medium Semi Cactus this year. I've grown Eastwood Moonlight and Peach Delight the last couple of years but really liked Val's Candy but my Dad suggested going with the original Hillcrest Candy because he has never had a show standard Val's Candy (but done well with Hillcrest Candy) and considering my space problem - the logic of growing 1 with a chance of entering a class or one that is unlikely to have a chance of entering - made sense to me.
I took my Dad's advice but the plant itself was rubbish and I never let grow to full bloom size and am not going to bother with it again.
Next year I am going to be growing:
One of my Dad's seedlings and has nice strong stems.
I am also tempted to try
or
Both of these are my Dad's seedlings
For me I like the colour of the pink one more than the yellow (well pink is nearer to purple - so no brainer that one). Going to grow Eastwood Moonlight but I don't know whether or not to drop the Peach Delight for the pink one or stick with my Peach Delight which I really like but with my problem of lack of space I can't grow one of each.

I like those seedlings Moonlight I think the pink is better than peach delight to my novice idiot trained eye ! Haha If your still growing Eastwood moonlight no need for the yellow seedling unless it takes the weather better than Eastwood. The bi colour looks a cracker . Would do well against the kenora sunsets and westons for sure in my opinion. I saw moonlights at wisley and a cracking flower it is. I might try it own day. I saw clayts it is nice white with a pink blush . I need to ponder this over the next month or so. Kept two hillcrest candy tubers so I have stock plus pot tuber as well. Peach delight was nice but I prefer narrows Sonia to that. I now know with Sonia no nitrogen and lots of potash. Big bushy plant looks like the foliage you see on a fimbriated. Staleen condessa and Ruskin Michelle I saw both at wisley the Michelle where outstanding from Phil Watson. Ian k staleen I loved and felt he was harshly judged stunning blooms and amazing colour. Each to there own I suppose doing the bankers in all other sections I will grow . I will figure it out. Even if I keep stock in pot tuber and grow in the future if I get more space. Hey ho ! In no panic will see how the propagation goes as well. Making up my mind whether to grow hillcrest jersie again or cherwell goldcrest. The goldcrest I can get stock at any time . So I think I will dabble at jersie one more year. Have space for a lower growing variety.

Not going to bother with Jersie. I have my own seedlings and like what I have. I grew Oakwood Goldcrest and Cherwell this year, last year only the Oakwood. I think that I will stick with that. Last year grew Ruskin Myra and Ryecroft Zoe. This year I dropped the Myra and grew Greenways Zoe and Ryecroft Zoe. I also have my own Seedling
to try.

Lou78W I had pot tubers of zoe you could of had Got plenty of pot tubers of a number of varieties. Moonlight I wish you all the best with you and your dad's seedlings that pink medium is stunning as is the bi colour and the yellow. When I said narrows Sonia not a moonlight I don't think anything can compete against a good moonlight. Perhaps Ruskin michelle that I saw at wisley. I have four collarettes that I will grow again. Splitting the tubers in spring might take one or two cuttings maximum off them. I will only grow three of each to look at again. Here they are Ken stock likes this one he called it pg tips. Collar is untidy but colour lovely . Petal lay I need to see if it improves. Weak in growth but decent tuber . Off white with pink blush my favourite. Lemon creamy blend. Collar I think is too long. Canary yellow . This one had so many with 9 petals or 10 petals then started getting 8 petals . For show collarettes growing garden friends two from Jack gott I have ordered and perhaps Claire De lune but probably not. All being grown in 15litre pots 6 to 8 of a variety. Dropped Anne breckenfelder nice as a young bloom but ugly once the stamens are mature plus my tuber had crown gall. All my singles being given away and all my other novelties. Looking forward to next year but also feeling a bit daunted by it all will take a depth breath and do what I can. I have this seedling as well. Unusual not sure of it might just grow one. The tuber split in half on its own. so a friend getting one half.
