For what good some of those 'friendly' way of getting rid of them is, you may as well try asking the politely to go. I use the standard trap, as with a mouse trap it's quick. They have an extraordinary sense of smell so you need to follow instructions carefully. Merlin mole traps are not quick. I have seen some of them waving to and fro until the mole is dead. That's awful, I once trapped my finger in one and I knew it. I have to say I've not seen one actually trapped as it's underground, but you've done my present 'visitor' a favour as you've made me think twice now.

Not really an answer to your problem but Once at Blackgang Chine on the Isle of Wight we saw a crowd looking at something which turned out to be a mole digging under a small piece of lawn and poking its head up occasionally. First time I've ever seen one alive. I can understand their nuisance value though I think I would be loth to kill them.

I remember once we were driving by Tomnavoulin and Auchnarrow and we saw about 30 dead moles hung up on a barbed wire fence, it wasn't very pleasant I don't know why they did that. In Australia, a snake gets hung over the fence, but that is done as a warning and it really works, although we were always wary.
