Jars to Kill(ner) for
I suspect most people are already aware of Kilner Jars. For those that aren't; they are glass jars with a dinky hinged metal strap along the top, that allows the lid (glass, with a rubber seal) to be clamped down to make an air-tight seal. They are much favoured for people making jam. I found these miniature Kilner jars in Wilko's (though I have no doubt many other places may do them... perhaps the pound shops ? ). They are MUCH favoured by myself for storing seeds. (just put a bit of newspaper in to block out light). Click to see a larger image.

A little something off the top ?
I blundered across these whillst looking for Rooting powder, of all things. As ever, I suspect EVERYONE has them already, and I'm the last to catch up with them. But nevertheless, they are BRILLIANT. They cost around the £4.00 mark, and are a BIT flimsy, but nontheless they are perfect for deadheading, harvesting runner beans, harvesting salads and Erbs, pruning tomato plants and - for all I know - getting stones out of horses hooves. (I've not been able to test the last one because - as you might imagine - being on a roofgarden, I don't get many stones. ). Click to see larger versions of each image.

The Seed Injector
| When I bought this gadget (cost around the £3.00 mark) I fully expected it to be a complete failure. But I was pleasantly suprised. The idea is to help you plant large amounts of seeds very quickly, whillst still allowing you to accurately put just ONE seed in each location. For example, quickly seeding a large tray of seedling pots |
| Simply unscrew the lid, and use a funnel to pour the seeds in |
| The injector, now fully charged with seeds |
| Point the injector at the location you want just a SINGLE seed in, and click the plunger |
| Oh......
|
Jesting apart, it was actually fairly successful. With REALLY fine seeds, you just tap the plunger, rather than clicking it, and it DOES take a bit of practice, but it SEEMS to work quite well so far.

They look good ladybird, the site comes up in U.S. dollars here though & ships from China & the U.S., have you used AliExpress before, it looks like an Asian ebay type site?

Yes Sue, I use it frequently. You can change the currency on the menu tab at the top ship to/GBP, you can change to sterling here. . Things do take a long time coming but I'm amazed how cheap things are and mostly little or free postage. I do tend to stay away from items I think are copies .

Thanks ladybird, I know when you order sometimes from Chinese dealers on ebay it can take 3 or 4 weeks to arrive but everything is usually O.K. & I often wonder how they do it when they don't even charge postage on such cheap items.

I just bought a set of there three plugs with remote control. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07NJ2XHZC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1I got this for the greenhouse so I can switch the lights in the GH on and off from the house, no more stumbling about in the dark. I also use one to switch on the Kettle from another room nice if your watching TV and fancy a cuppa or just getting up in the morning. The third one is for switching on the electric blanket so its nice and warm when I go upstairs to bed. Now my only problem is where did I leave that remote !

I've been using them for several years. I can stand at my door, and turn the polytunnel lights on and off. I DID have it so I can turn my poytunnel heater on/off, but I chickened out when I realised that - if it failed to turn off - I'd run up a huge electricity bill for running the heater for 12 or 24 hours. (or even longer, if I didn't check the polytunnel for a couple of days). I suppose I ought to daisy-chain the heater to a light, so I've got a visual indication as to whether it is running or not ? Hmmm...... I also use it for turning my bedroom reading light on and off.

Roofy I had intended to use one for the heated propagating table in the greenhouse as when the sun shines the heat can get very high under the plastic covers, but my lead from the thermostat is too short fit to the main plugs so I have two plug sockets on a ground spike under the table but the cover over the plugs means I cant plug in the remote unit. I think I`d rather have my kettle and electric blanket on them anyway.

They do look useful ladybird, I don't have any electricity in the shed or greenhouse though but I bet I would forget to turn things off with or without a remote switch.
