Pretty comma butterfly on the verbena 'Lollipop' yesterday, first one I've seen for ages, also had a red admiral which has been very rare here this summer & a speckled wood but didn't catch a pic. of them.

I love commas @willow, we've had a couple & also a few red admirals, whites, speckled wood & a gatekeeper which I managed to get a pic. of:- Not so many butterflies around here this year, we had brimstones, holly blues & small tortoiseshells earlier in the spring & then a fairly barren spell until just recently.

Why is it when I go into the garden with my camera to photograph butterflies they all fly away.... we'll all bar this Red Admiral.

That happens to me too @willow, I try to creep up on them as well & just get the camera focused & they shoot off! We had a Red Admiral here as well yesterday but didn't manage to get a pic., did get this comma a couple of days ago:- We went for a walk up the moss here yesterday & saw a speckled wood, several gatekeepers, a few meadow browns & the first Painted Lady I've seen this year. Speckled wood:- Meadow brown:- Painted Lady:-

I love butterflies. Never had a Speckled Wood in my garden, well not yet. I try not to cast a shadow on them as that is sure to make them take flight. These are easy to get on camera.
