You are absolutely right daitheplant, goodness knows what people put in their garden waste bins. Thanks for bringing this to our attention dianthus. I have been using Athur Bowers organic farmyard manure on my roses with great results and think it's a good product. But I won't be using their compost.

If Arthur Bowers are using council compost it's no wonder it's rubbish. A recent TV programme exposed the amount of general rubbish found in council compost. Definitely not to be used. I don't know if they are diggie .... just summising this from what I found in the bags.

Surprised at that....our allotment hut sells it....must check out their prices. I had been getting Durstons (now called Manor Farm) locally, but supplies seemed to have dried up....

A lot of gardens are full of coal waste, so not good for growing in.

Welllll........ a good thing that none of us held our breath waiting for a reply. I left it a while, then tried to get through on the phone, then left a message last week.
I had a call on Tuesday, saying they were still waiting for more test results, then a call yesterday afternoon to say they will send vouchers to cover the cost of the twelve bags I bought. What I really needed was the cash to buy tomatoes and courgettes to replace the absent yield from the non-growing plants. the tomatoes are still only 6 - 8" high after 4 months in their compost!! To not have enough food stored for winter, could be a problem for me.
They are also sending me a report of their findings, so I'll let you know the outcome.

I got an extra £12 of vouchers rosie but this does not get me the tomatoes and courgettes to stock the freezer. I also have empty troughs and tubs where my bedding plants should be in full colour by now.
The report states that they are using green waste, heat treating it in two composting phases..... and then washing out all the nutrients in case any contaminants have been included by the council and / gardeners!! No wonder nothing will grow in what is basically fibre, unless they then add nutrients separately produced, back into the mix, in the right proportions. The failure to do this properly was why my plants didn't grow.
Apparently, my nearest stockist of their Traditional compost, is in Gloucestershire, over 50ml away!
Can you believe it?
