I had a look for my bulbils Fractal but I must have thrown them away when I was clearing old foliage from the veg. bed & potato containers. I've still got the original plant in the pot though so will try splitting it & replanting in the veg. bed.

Great. If for no other reason they make an interesting talking point. Mine will be going to three gardens, mine, parents and some in garden that I've cleared for a herb bed.

Steve, are you refering to Welsh or Russian onions? I was wrong Dai, Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum) Onion/Shallot (Allium cepa) Tree onion (Allium x proliferum) a hybrid betwen both species with possible backcrosses with one or either respective parent! Hence variability I suppose? Mine look like one of the red ones.

Incidentally, Jekka's Herbs seeds at work have Welsh Onions, think I'll try them too. Just use as large bunching onions, lift clump and replant a few stems for propagation to keep them going.

According to Wikipedia , people in Cornwall refer to Welsh Onions as "Chibbles". This pleased me greatly !

Mine were just labelled 'tree/walking onion' I think & were greenish if I remember Fractal, there are lots of little green shoots coming up in the pot so I'll get on with replanting them when the weather picks up.

If wikipedia say Welsh onions are "chibbles", what do they say "jibbons" are?

Couldn't find it on Wikipedia though dictionary.com says: plural noun 1. (Southwest English, dialect) spring onions Word Origin from Norman French chiboule, variant of French ciboule onion, ultimately from Latin capulla an onion patch, from caepa an onion
