One quarter of my old garden before the makeover My garden after - didn't get round to finishing it all before we moved - dug up every plant and took them with us along with pots of bamboo and grasses.

Hope you get to take some of your plants with you again then daisy when you move & enjoy designing another garden. That does sound like a lot of stairs to negotiate!

Hope you get to take some of your plants with you again then daisy when you move & enjoy designing another garden. That does sound like a lot of stairs to negotiate! Sue - I just stand and look at the area and picture the shape and size of the beds and borders in my head - I can't draw to save myself - I would waste a ream of paper that way lol. Once the beds and edging are in place I then start laying the plants in their pots in them - I've learned the hard way planting then digging up again thinking nope that just doesn't look right or would look better in a different spot next to something else - poor Hubby he must get so exasperated with all the changing around. Every plant will be dug up and taken with us again, what a cafuffle but I'm sure being plant enthusiast yourself you'll understand. About the stairs - this is an old Victorian house most of them have three levels. One of the old features are the bell pulls - and of course me being me I had to see if they still worked, no is the answer to that one - I just holler!

That sounds like the way I work too daisy, I did draw a rough plan when we moved here but had to change things around anyway when we found what was actually under the soil & I dug out the borders & beds myself gradually & did the same as you - plonking plants down in their pots & rearranging them before eventually planting them. I did dig up a few plants to bring with me & took cuttings from others but a lot of ours were in pots already so that was easier than having to dig everything up like you've had to. Your house sounds lovely apart from the stairs being a problem, what a shame the bells didn't work though especially when you've been ill.

Our old garden used to flood in parts every time we had torrential or prolonged rainfall, clay soil didn't help matters - raised the beds in some areas but couldn't do in others. I love the house Sue it's full of character - original banisters and door - I sometimes try to picture the first occupants especially the servants (which they had back then) living in the attic rooms - wonder if they were happy living and working in this house! :-)) Hope your enjoying your new home :-))

What a smashing garden daisy , when we moved back here I took loads of plants out of the garden too. We had tenants in here for a while, althought they looked after the house, they badly neglected outside, so now we're slowly working through 3 years of being left to mother nature, it's coming around slowly. Like you Graham does the heavy work for me too.

At least one good thing Rosie they took care of the house - can you imagine what that might have looked like if it were treated the same as the garden :-0. It's all the work you've put into for it just to be left is really annoying... well more than annoying but I'm sure you get what I'd really like to say! They could've done it a wee bit at a time to keep on top of things..I bet Graham wasn't to pleased..what a real shame :-( Hope the weather smiles on your garden, so it can be done a lot quicker and let you once again enjoy it :-))

It sure was Ladybird - but it was the plants that had to be left due to no space for them that was the saddest part. We asked them if they wouldn't mind us leaving some large plants in pots there for maximum two weeks, they said no problem - but when we returned to pick them up they had put them in the skip at the rubbish tip - I was so angry I thought I was going to burst - maybe sounds a bit daft but I cried :-(
