I picked up a pack of chickpeas yesterday from the garden centre - I've never grown them before and the packet doesn't give masses of info - such as height etc.
Has anyone grown these before?
They are Chickopea 'Principe'

Never done them, but I'd be VERY interested in knowing more about them.

I've never tried growing them either piskie so I looked them up & they're a tender annual which grows to around 2 & a half foot & you can sow them now under cover or later in the spring (after last frosts) direct outdoors. They sound as though they need quite a bit of sun to get to the big fat ripe white skinned stage but you can eat them young like petit pois apparently.

We where invited around to my Sisters for vegetarian Chilli con Carne on Saturday.. it was VERY nice.
It set me thinking; to what extent could I grow ALL of the ingredients for her recipe ? Obviously, the Quorn would be problematic (I believe its some sort of fungus ?), but the vegetables.. well... onions, courgettes, tomatoes, capsicums, coriander .. they are all possible. But she used chick peas: hence my interest.
Oh.. and kidney beans; but I think they may be a bit difficult ? (Plus I gather they can also be poisonous if not prepared properly ? )
