Moonlight awesome explanation thank you. I have to get some of those smaller trays. I'm not sowing my own seed yet but may try to collect come autumn. Let us know if your seeds germinate

I've sown the 3 seeds I collected from my 'mongrel' garden dahlias Moonlight but have no idea which they were or if they'll germinate, you're very organised even though you will probably say you're not! I like the use of your railcard - are you not planning on going on the train then or just going to wipe it clean?

In I had my 2014 17 'Fred' seedlings and last year I had 66 2015 'Bill' seedlings. This year I have 68 seedlings already and they are only just getting going. 13 Collerettes, 5 Waterlily, 31 miniature semi/cactus, 2 small semi/cactus, 1 large semi cactus, 10 miniature dec, 2 small dec and 2 ball dahlias.
5 seedlings of which are from 2014 seed.
I think it is going to be a very colourful seedling season; just need work out where they are all going to go. The Waterlily seedlings and Collerettes will be grown out front garden and will be joined with all the non keepers (no red wool status) as the season goes on.

I've pricked out 24. I had loads of Weston Corsair and could have done a whole tray of it but had to include a few others, including Tel Birkenshaw Wyn's Favourite and a Birkenshaw Garden Friends. they will grow.

My Garden Friends tuber is shooting but not yet tried taking the cutting but nothing from my Wyn's tuber and I don't think that my Dad's one is growing either.
I have pricked out a Wyn's and Garden Friends seedling.
Done my 1st batch today. Loads more to do but at least I have started.

I miss Tel so much, especially now, Tel and his passion for his seedlings. Also so supportive and encouraging with my seedlings and we shared updates on how ours were doing. We were cheering each other on. That is why this year I am calling my seedlings Tel. Last year my seedlings were Bill and the year before was Fred. This year I want to call them Tel because I am going to miss his posts but at least I'll have him as moral support, always there and the idea made me smile rather than feel sad. I have no plans to name a dahlia after him, it is more important the seedling 'journey' (for want of a better term) cheering me on, moral support. There are lots of people here growing dahlias for their gardens and many who are planning on competing but Tel shared my passion and I hope that there are more members out there who are collecting seeds and sowing seeds in the hope of discovering something special. I think that it would be great if there were more members having a go, for more next year. For me it doesn't matter if you sow 1 seed or 1,000, there is no guarantee that you raise anything but it is exciting. I hope that you understand.

That makes sense, and truly the spirit of tel. I think of him often at the moment, and miss his cheerfulness. It's all about dahlia passion - which you have I feel from your posts

Class of 2016 Tel seedlings update. Happy to tell you that things have gone well so far and I have pricked out over 100. Including 34 Weston Corsair, 32 Barbarry Surprise, going down to 1 Kenora Valentine (which I am very happy about as I only managed to collect 2 seeds.)
I have seedlings from Weston Pirate (yet to be pricked out and potted) which is my favourite, Weston Buccaneer (my favourite new one from last year) and Weston Spanish Dancer. I also have some seedlings growing from my Fred Fire seedling which we think has some 'Weston' dna but not from a Weston 'mother' seed head.
I also have a few of my 'Zoe Crest' seedlings and Ruskin Myra (2014) seedlings come up.
Dec wise I have seedlings from my Marston George seeds collected from both my last year seeds and some from 2014. Marston George 2015 is labelled Marston George and 2014 is labelled 14 M. George. (currently) The best thing I can do is keep them apart to minimise confusion but nearish so that I can compare. Still loads of 2014 M. George remaining. I think. Will check on that one.
Trengrove Millenium is waking up.
Nothing from Marston Lilac or Barbarry Pip but loads of Barbarry Surprise.
I have Tel's Birkenshaw Wyn's Favourite and a Birkenshaw Garden Friends.
Waterlilies Kilburn Glow (nothing from Edwin's Sunset or T. Ruby)
Collerettes from Grand Duc, Bloomkist Kelly Ann and Pinc Pat n Perc
Now anyone familiar to these varieties will know that they almost all deep red/dark maroon/deep purple and anyone that knows me, will understand that I have my for some deep and dark (and beautiful). So I've got as good a chance as any.
Whatever happens I get so excited when the bloom heads open a tiny bit.
