Good morning everybody, and welcome to the 2017 Roofgardener Diary. 2016 was another year of revelations and excitement, allthough THIS time the polytunnel didn't blow away ! I'm still suffering a bit from Sciatica, so this will be a very brief entry, just to get the ball rolling. When I can concentrate more, I'll post lurid details of the RoofPLan for 2017, featuring shock, scandal, sensation, Polytunnels and Owls. Who knows, there may even be space for a bit of gardening ?

Roofus, you have my sympathy re the sciatica. HOWEVER, surely it is about time Owliver and Bronwin were allowed a bit of freedom now? Or are you trying to be the manager of a pair of superstars who can make YOU millions?

I'm under strict instructions to wake them up with toast, jam, and tea for breakfast. .. in around March

Since when have pampered, plastic, owls been allowed to hibernate?

They're not plastic daitheplant They've each got a heated wicker straw-lined drawer, lots of Hessayon books to read (plus a Gardeners World compendium), and plenty of Honey ! I don't think they're hibernating; they just hate the cold damp weather

Well, it's been a long time since my last post. 2017 has turned out to be a confusing year. A mixture of an eye infection (followed by Iritis), my Sciatica, and an Landlords Wife, has conspired to make me almsot give up on Gardening. The main event was the Landlords Wife... the two of them are in the midst of a divorce, with the Roofgarden being one of their shared assets. She has now moved into the adjacent flat, and restricted my usage of the Roofgarden to just one area. (which, to be fair, is probably still half of the area). I fear that eviction is in the air (I certainly don't want to live next to her, so it is a question of whether I leave of my own accord, or she pushes me out when she finally gets control of the property). She has taken over half the Roof, in particular the Sunny Wall that I used to grow my Onions against. (along with Courgettes, runner beans etc). She has also annexed the Potato Patch and the central Herb Garden. Very annoying. And here is what I am now limited to. Small... but still a useful space ! After all, gardeners like KC did huge amounts, with a smaller space. All of this kinda put me off Gardening, but I'm starting to get the urge back again. Late in the year, but hopefully not TOO late ! It didn't help when the winds rose up, and I left my Polytunnel door open, resulting in...... Incredibly, there was hardly any damage ! Mind you, it happened in the evening, and it rained overnight, so everything was thoroughly soaked. The owls popped out of hibernation, took one look at it, gave me a "look", and went back into their straw nests ! Some good things happened, mind you. I got a LOVELY card at Easter from dianthus ... isn't it brilliant ? Oh, and another great thing arrived.... dunno whether I'll be able to use it THIS year, but I'll certainly try Well, that was a lightening update. I'm off to North Wales next week with the Owls and my Sister.... more to follow when I get back
