That does it. I really am homesick now. I love daphnes and primulas. My D. bholua 'Jacqueline Postill' must be out now if yours is Geumlover and it is 6 ft tall.

Not easy, sad to say. Your friend would be better looking for a sucker coming up near the original plant and carefully digging that out. Daphne cuttings need bottom heat to root and can take a long time.

I wonder if it would be worth trying layering or air layering. I might try that on my Daphne Retusa. I saw Daphne Eternal fragrance in a garden centre and I could actually smell it's perfume. I can hardly smell other one's for some reason.

I have daphne odora and Perfume Princess here. Odora reputedly is difficult to propagate yet my neighbour has no problems doing this. No "bottom heat", perlite, or propagator ever used. He simply takes heel cuttings...timing is down to his whim....and he uses ordinary garden soil in pots. The Odoras I have here are from his cuttings. Odora is a popular shrub here and many locals propagate it this way.

My Daphne 'Jacqueline Postill' is in full flower here in Northumberland. Fantastic scent as I walk into the garden each day. As it's about six foot the smell is quite heady but delicious.
