….. this 'grass' grows all over my garden, I clear the area and back it comes ….. eventually gets about 8" tall and clumps-up and forms quite a tight root, I've not had this is any previous garden.

I think I have that popping up here sometimes Louise, not sure what it is though, it looks like maybe some kind of sedge. I have rushes & sedges which seem to like the usually damp ground in our garden & I've left some of them where nothing else seems to grow.

Have you been feeding the birds with seed? You get all sorts of stuff growing where seed has dropped.

It looks a bit like some grasses you get in sand dunes....

Sue, Sweetpea …….. I think Lou's probably nailed it …. Because the gardens around here are on sand I suspect it's going to be a type of grass that's found in/on dunes as over the road are the dunes ! Sweetpea…… no, to your query, these were here before I moved in. I'm forever pulling these damn things out, they are clearly liking the place and wanting to live here - which they're not going to !
