we have a bottle brush in a pot on the allotment, i forgot to place it in the greenhouse for winter, All the leaves are brown. One of the other allotment tenants told me she had put hers in the cold greenhouse over winter but still lost it.

I have two young ones which were given to me by a forum member and they are just fine. I suppose they shouldn't be, but these must be a tough natural variety.

Likewise here, Cherry. I have mine in the hottest site, with the poorest soil and it's liking it there - which i'm surprised about because it's an alkaline spot and they're supposed to prefer non alkaline, so i read

Neutral is fine for Callistemon. They do like sun.

They are really big Steve. Are they yours? I always think of your parents' Grevillea 'Canberra Gem' and I do wonder how that coped with the winter?

Sorry Esther. I thought it was SteveN. That has grown very large and I don't think you will lose it at that size. It is bigger than any I have seen even in Australia.

ps Esther, it looks like your Bottlebrush still has living shoots from what I can see in your photo's so I wouldn't be too hasty just yet. Wait until the end of next month before pruning unless really obviously dead.
