Steve I am very sorry for your parents. That was a magnificent specimen.
Esther now I must worry for your Callistemon because there is quite a lot of brown on it. Like Steve said, don't be too hasty.

Yesterday Barry pruned the Bottlebrush - it had lots of dead branches but is sprouting in places.It has had a very,very severe haircut - I just hope it will be o.k

One of mine in an exposed place had brown dead leaves but is shooting fresh green leaves from lower down

I have decided to plant a couple of morning glories at the back of the top basket on the lamp post - it might hide the bare branches

I do hope it picks up Esther, that is a huge tree to loose and it is not something that can be replaced easily. I've got a lot of climbers filling spaces where large shrubs used to be. Last winter was not a good one.
