Does anyone use a Hori Hori? (soil knife/trowel). They seem to be increasing in popularity of late so of course after reading a bit about them...I bought one. They're basically a robust broad knife but the blade is shaped so that it can also be used like a trowel for digging. Some come with depth markings for planting though mine is unmarked. What I have found is its probably the best tool for removing deep rooted weeds!

Never heard of it Fractal but it looks useful, I bet Monty Don has got one in his huge collection of tools hung up in his shed on G.World!

Japeto brand of Hori Hori with the markings on the back and the saw tooth side useful for cutting through roots or cutting back perennials. Curve of the blade Here is the plainer Hori Hori made by Niwaki Incidently, Hori Hori is an onomatopoeia and is the Japanese for dig dig. They must have very gravelly soil if it makes a Hori Hori sound!

You will be in danger of getting arrested Steve if you go out with that I've got several tools I use for different types of weed but the trick is to wait until the soil is reasonably moist making it easier to get them out.

I would probably end up cutting my finger off with it, I'm not very good with sharp knives!

Used my hori hori a lot yesterday for trimming turf to an even thickness. Obviously the piece of turf in picture is half done. Worked perfectly!

That looks like the ideal tool for that job Fractal - much better than the old blunt kitchen knife I used years ago!

It looks handy for cutting roots in the ground. Maybe I'll try to get one.
