I decided to go to a large store in Cornwall yesterday, which also has the butcher I use, I get there early normally to miss crowds, yesterday half term was over and it was unbelievable, the carpark was virtually full, I went to get timber I needed and dog treats, then headed straight back home, won't be going back for a while now

I suppose that was because of people panic buying due to the impending English lockdown grindle I wonder how many toilet rolls are left in that shop ! I hope you have enough stuff to last a while.

It probably was people stocking up for the 'lockdown' grindle, I think people are getting confused over what will be open & what won't & are just buying things willy-nilly. I walked down to the local little Tesco on Sunday as I'd run out of carrots & when I was in there I noticed that the frozen meat/fish section was almost empty already. I went into my friend from school's card shop too yesterday to get a birthday card for my brother & ended up buying some Christmas cards as well, she was so stressed at having to close again & was fuming that some shops are allowed to open & others not & she would lose business to Tesco etc.

That's very unfair isn't it SueA, if Tesco can sell cards why not other shops. In our lockdown here the shops could only sell 'essential' goods, and that also included the big supermarkets. It meant only food toiletries medication baby products etc. and everything else such as clothes etc had to be cordoned off. It's fairer to do it like that I think.

I used to go to the one in Liskeard and also Heathfield both delivering and buying. Not been there for many years now.

Well at least this time garden centres are allowed to stay open right from the beginning. I think the problem with closing non-essential shops & sections in big stores is that all the stores lose out as everyone just orders products online instead, I know I've bought more things online during the various different lockdowns especially plants, seeds, garden supplies, bird & hedgehog food which I couldn't get locally.

I've been mostly online shopping this year SueA I've not fancied going to Plymouth but have gone the other way into Cornwall where I can shop early without too many people, J is high risk so I would hate to bring anything home.

I find the market handy for fruit and veg, but Tesco online is near impossible, so I use Morrisons.

I tried Tesco on line shopping a few months ago but I think the minimum you had to spend was about £40 and since I am now on my own I don't need all that food. I sometimes go to the local Tesco for their own brand cat biscuits because Bella likes them but I find it too big and you have to walk a long way before you even get inside it. I do my shopping in a local Co-op and open air market on Fridays where the vegetables are loose and you can get exactly what you want. In the big supermarkets most of them are in packs which is too much for me. I also find the vegetables from the market last longer. I like the fresh fish from Morrisons and hope to go there next week, it's about 15 miles away but I've been staying local during the lockdown.

I agree Cherry I have used Tesco online for years but now find it almost impossible to get a slot, they also are still limiting you to 95 items which is a pain as I shop monthly and more often than not need more, our Morrisons don't do online so I've reverted to Asda which seems to always have a few slots, although you have to watch regularly to pick one up

I've never shopped for food online, I always like to see what I'm buying & select the longest 'use by/best before' dates but I suppose there may come a day when we have to use it. We don't have any markets around here but I've never been really keen on those for food as you see people coughing & sneezing around & reaching over the food & traffic driving past, during the last lockdown we drove to a small market & I got some strawberries & grapefruit from an open air stall, the grapefruit was really stale & dry & although the strawberries tasted O.K. I spent a lot of the next morning on the loo! I walk down to the local little Tesco & Nisa (used to be Co-op) almost every day, gets me out of the house & I'm hopeless at planning ahead, I like to get up & then think what I fancy to eat that day - O.H. will eat whatever he's given, he's not fussy! I've been struggling to stock up as well because our kitchen is tiny, you can only fit one person at a time in it & if you bend down to put something in the oven you bang your bum on the fridge at the other side so there's not much storage space.

Click & Collect here at Tesco, usually pretty good. A lot of disparity here with the different shops, Items blocked off at Home Bargains and Morrissons which you can buy at Factory shop plus a few other anomalies I have noticed such as cards allowed at some but banned at others. Its a right Balls up if you ask me.

isn't it just, I reckon so many are fed up that they're just not bothering and carrying on as normal

It really annoys me when you see people totally ignoring the rules around here, the infection rate in most of Greater Manchester is over 600 per 100,000 people & only falling very slowly in a few areas. O.H. got a call from his former boss the other day & he has Covid, he has underlying health issues but has always been keen on keeping fit, running marathons, climbing, cycling etc. & has been shielding to some extent since the first lockdown started. He thinks he maybe caught it from his children who have had it mildly & probably picked it up when everyone went back to school/college, he's taking part in a vaccine trial at the moment & is very worried & upset. I can't believe that there are people who think that Covid doesn't exist & is some sort of conspiracy.
