I love your garden Esther, it is always so full and interesting. What is the name of the first fern, the one with the dark veins? Is it fully hardy?

Is it Athyrium otophorum, if so mine just came through -15, deciduous but very hardy

Thankyou for the lovely comments I am sure Steve is right about the fern - he usually is I bought it from Homebase a few years ago from a £2.99 mixed tray of ferns - I am really terrible about learning names

Athyriums are the lady ferns and Dryopteris are the male ferns (nothing to do with the genders though) Dryopteris affinis the King is a nice one with cristate ends to the fronds
