Cut some flowers for indoors again, lots of blackspot on the roses but new buds appearing & the rudbeckias are starting to look good although a lot of them seem to have died off since last year, they usually reliably come up year after year.

SueA: Lovely flower arrangement. Colours really complement each other. I have been looking through 2021 month by month so I can write down the flowers/shrubs I like. Can you tell me where you buy the grit you used to top your bulb pots please? What quantity does it come in and where can I buy it? Quite often horticultural grit is used to mix a potting compost - is there anything else I could use other than horticultural grit? Would sharp sand work? I have joined the RHS now so I can go down to Bridgewater soon.

Thanks libralady. I have trouble finding grit sometimes, this last year I bought some online from Amazon when the garden centres were closed but you can usually get 'handy packs' from places like Parker's or Bents. The grit sold as horticultural or potting grit is best, I've never tried sand but I'm not sure if that would form a bit of a hard cap on top.

Thanks Sue, I have since seen something online at B&Q which may be just right, and also Sarah Raven has it on her website.
