We watched this morning as she came out of the nest with 9 fluffy ducklings. We have watched them all day as they swam on the pond and explored the garden. They are all feeding well and getting stronger by the hour. We've taken loads of photos and will post some soon.

After a busy day exploring the garden the ducklings were tired and they stayed overnight in the nest. This morning when we went into the garden we found Mother Duck and her brood sitting by the garden gate. We opened it and out they went. We had to flag down a lorry to let her cross the road over to the park at the front of our house and we then watched over her whilst she led her family down to the river. We feel very privileged that she chose to nest in our garden but it was good to see her take them to their natural environment. The garden seems very empty now though. Pictures following:

How great, I do hope they do well outside the safety of your garden. Our pair of Mallards come every evening to swim on the pond. Tonight we were watching them when the fox came into the garden, he walked up to the pond, had a drink and moved on. He was within feet of the ducks but neither him or the ducks seemed to notice the other. I thought foxes ate ducks.

We have foxes in the park here but I think the biggest predators here for ducklings are the seagulls. I have seen them swoop down and take a duckling from the water.
