Thank you balc2 and grindle ... Yes I drag the Loropetalum into the greenhouse every November and drag it back out in April. I've tried several times to leave them out and they have always died so I'm not taking any chances with this one.

Then that's the best thing you can do for your plant, Eli!

that's useful to know Eli as I bought one just after Christmas, as it's going to get colder I'll stick it in the greenhouse just in case

I think the trouble with it grindle is that it's too damp here, and I think Devon is just as wet as Carmarthenshire, being in the west. I was told by someone on a different forum that hers remains out all year round and survives sub-zero temperatures and being covered in snow, but she lives in France so it's probably drier. Anyway, after loosing about three in the past, this one will spend its winters inside my greenhouse.
How big is your Loropetalum Grindle ?

it's a pretty well established young one and was in flower when I got it, possible a 3/4litre pot, I'll take a picture of it if it ever stops raining

Here is a "cutting" I took of my Flamingo Lily. It's not "technically" a cutting as I pulled it off the mother plant & put it in a jar of water. It was only supposed to be there till the next day but it ended up being in the water for several weeks! Even after that time there was no sign of it making roots. A few days ago I finally put it in a pot with some compost. So I'll have to wait & see now if it roots or not!

Eli Great to see so many flowers in your garden! Unfortunately Hellebores wouldn't like our balcony - it get far too hot for them in the summer as being a SW facing balcony we get all the sun going from about 10am till the sun goes down in the late evening! (10pm during June!)

balc2 Most of my Hellebores grow at the bottom of the garden where the hedgerow along the field provides some shade. The rest of it gets like an oven on a summer day and is not suitable for them. I live on a hill so in the summer we get sunshine right up until it sets.
