A most annoying small panel keeps popping up the top left of screen. It lasts from 2 to 6 seconds and when it is displayed I cannot type or do anything on PC. It says AUTOPLAY and has a progress bar which runsthrough quickly. Also a 'Cancel' box though nothing happens when I click it Also has he moving 'search' torch displayed. Can't find anything in control panel and a virus scan found nothing. Will try one or two other tricks to see if I can get shot of it but any ideas would be most welcome.

Are you on XP ? there's a 'wizzard' that cleans your comp, could be that.

Bottom left where you can click and see all your progs click on run and type MSConfig in the box, if you get this up you should be able to see all progs that are run at start up and can select to uncheck them...be careful though a lot of them are needed
Failing that I would download and run Malwarebytes antimalware program its free and gets rid of any little progs that have been dropped on your comp while browsing
also press Ctrl Alt and Del buttons all at the same time...this brings up task manager where you can see what is running on your comp and choose to close them down if need be

It is free but tries to get you to download more bells and whistles version, I downloaded the free version last week for son but not much use if you've tried that, I think it could be a trojan virus probably better to pop it in to a shop if no one local can help, each one is different and means starting in safe mode and finding where it is etc....in the meantime if any adverts pop up saying they can solve it and asks you to go to their site to pay for the software...don't do it

Seems to have gone now (touch wood) Makes me wonder if it was some sort of April fool thing. Was up til gone 2am trying to get rid. I dont buy these 'Cures' any more. I think they find nonexistent problems and apart from this the pc is fine. Oh well, I've had worse. Thanks anyway folks for the input.
