Can I go back to blossom trees?
This is the free one I was give about a month ago, it will get relatively large though scotcat
I have just bought Malus 'Scarlett' to plant on the other side of the path from the prunus. This might suit you scotcat

A superb ‘all seasons tree’ combining good leaf, flower and fruiting features.
The rich pink, scented blossom contrasts well with the emerging purple, deeply lobed leaves which turn to glossy dark green in the summer and then rich scarlet with purple tints in the autumn, very rare for a Malus.
The persistent small purple fruits remain long after leaf fall.
Height and spread after 10 years 4m x 3m

. As we have been driving round the OH keeps spotting them and asking if we can have one too. I've been looking for something tough to replace the second Phormium so this ticked all the boxes (and it was on special offer). It hasn't flowered yet, I'll take a photo when it does.
