I'm sure I should know this but can you tell me what it is? I've just discovered it, can't remember planting it.

That is quite large for a new discovery. I have only one that size and the others are ruthlessly pulled out even though they are pretty. That looks like the bronze too. ;D

Your fennel looks enormous Merlin, mine is still only a couple of inches tall.

It was smothered by a tree peony and lots of weeds but it must have been there a while, can't remember buying it. Not sure what to do with it as I gather from what you say that it seeds everywhere, not seen any seedlings though. I recieved a pkt of Lavender multifida seeds today but can't remember ordering them.

It also has the longest tap root in the world, Merlin. I inherited several, and OH had to get his pickaxe to one which I could NOT dig out myself. Yes, they do seed around a lot. I still find seedlings, three years after removing the plants. They are a pest, to put it bluntly, and if you decide to keep it, the only way to deal with it is to chop off every flowerhead in advance of the seeds setting. Good luck with it!

That is what I do Geranium, and I usually chop off half of the plant and also stagger the stems so that it is feathered right down. It makes a beautiful backdrop for my tall alliums

Sadly, the one I left at the edge of the scree bed seems to have come to the end of its life. It was lovely there, overlooking the stream.

Are you sure, Peony? Maybe you hoe them out before they get a chance to put their roots down?

Are you sure, Peony? Maybe you hoe them out before they get a chance to put their roots down? It does flower Cherry I don't do hoeing Geranium (back problems), I have to kneel to weed, so I'm sure I would have spotted any seedlings, but I do grow my plants close together (I don't like bare soil and it saves on the weeding ;D) or maybe I deadheaded before it cast its seeds

Though it's in a place where it doesn't really matter I will take your advice and decapitate the seedheads. Pity it's a problem plant as it's rather nice.

I will Lou, I'll see how it looks and maybe put it more where it can be seen next year, it would look good with poppies.
