Should I be potting them on into slightly larger pots or put them straight into their final pots? Will a pot large enough for a tomato plant be the right size for a cucumber? When should I start to feed them?

Still touchy yet if we get a cold spell so pot them on but not in to a big final pot if the compost has food in then no need to feed any more yet, a pot big enough for a tomato will be fine, they tend to sulk and rot easier than a tomato though so putting straight in to a big pot with cold compost might be too much of a shock for early May

I think we would all sulk if we were put into a pot of cold compost ;D I always pot mine on into a slightly larger pot first,i use the buckets that the supermarkets use for flowers to eventually pot my toms and cue's into

I agree, move up a stage before final pot. Better to get the roots to fill the pot before moving on to the large one. The compost in a larger pot can stay too wet also which can cause root rot or neck rot. Moving a larger rootball into the final pot means that the roots will fill it quicker reducing this risk.

I agree with all of the above and would also add that I plant my cues on a slight mound so that water doesn't collect round the base of the plant

Thanks, I'll pot them on tomorrow.
I do have a few ring cultures left, would it be an idea to use these when they go into their final pots?

Thanks, I'll pot them on tomorrow. I do have a few ring cultures left, would it be an idea to use these when they go into their final pots?It has been known for some folks to use ring culture for cucumbers in a similar way to tomatoes but IMHO it is not worth it. The idea of ring culture is to have two separate root systems where you feed the roots in the ring and water the base aggregate whatevere you use for that. When i have grown cucumbers in the g'house I tend to use a folded over growbag and plant two cucumbers in each. A few holes poked in the side of the bag takes care of any surplus water. Always had success with that method but this year am just growing ridge cucumbers. A lot easier and just as tasty and no red spider. Unless you are growing the all female varieties make sure they don't get pollinated as they will get bitter so pinch out the male flowers. Start feeding as soon as the small embryo cucumbers start to grow.

I understand all that SP but I have some ring things spare. I thought if I planted them in the 'plant pot' bit right up to the top and watered them in the other bit there would be no water near the stem. It would be growing for the not too careful
