Our outbuildings have their electricity separate from the main house and controlled by a prepayment meter with a 'key' which you use to top up when low. The power went to E (emergency) and the power went off in half of the outbuildings but not all. On topping up the power was restored but what I cant understand is why some but not all the power went off? here is a layout; meter---workshop---gamesroom---caravan---pond area
Why when the meter requires topping up would the power stay on in A The workshop, B the gamesroom but cut off the caravan and the pond area? I would have thought that either there was power or not.
Any thoughts on this most welcome.

I wonder if it might be worth getting the electricity board to confirm all the out building are on the same circuit Sweetpea? maybe some are on your house ring main. At Kennethmont we had 3 phase power, the house, and 2 parts of the garage had their own supply and there were 3 meters to read

I wondered about that too Rosie however if I turn off the main fuse outside the house supply still stays on. Nothing like a good old mystery. A friend of ours is an electrician so I'll pick his brains when he's over next.

If you throw the switch at the outbuilding meter, does the electric go off in the workshop and games room?

Probably one is supplied by British Gas and the other Welsh Water

If you throw the switch at the outbuilding meter, does the electric go off in the workshop and games room? I just went out and tried that and guess what? The power in caravan and pond went off but not the workshop where the meter is located. Think I'm going doolally Will have to check when next the main house power is off to see what happens outdoors. Not going to turnit off until I have to as all the timers and things will need resetting. Thanks anyway for all your input.

I strongly suggest you don't get the electricity board in to check it out. So many old properties have a 'free' supply of electricity. You will probably find that you are connected up to a wire that came in from 'somewhere'. We have a number of friends which are connected up to a wire which came in from 'somewhere'. Love it, use it, don't abuse it but keep quiet.
