As i said on the other site you asked this on, this is where Googling and the World Wide Web comes into its own.

I was only there for a couple of days. It was an eye opener, I'm glad I went but would never go back. I did visit a garden which was OK, the plants were very different as you would expect but it all seemed as dirty and dusty as the rest of Istanbul, it wasn't jaw dropping or even 'wow', it was just different.
If you go, ALWAYS ask the price before, this includes all shopping, taxi rides, bus fares. All are very reasonable if you say "how much will X cost", if you take a taxi ride and then ask how much you will have your bank account emptied.

As I said, I'm glad I went, it was an experience worth having. I wouldn't go back but then there are loads of places I enjoyed but would not revisit.
They also work on haggling, never pay what is asked, it is always a lot more than they are expecting, haggle over everything, you will save a small fortune.

Thankyou for an honest answer as this was all I was looking for as we were thinking in going in Sept. I just did not like Lousie reply . This sounds a slightly rude reply to me about Louise's post Scotkat. Perhaps you did not mean it to sound that way.

That is a completely different forum and nothing to do with this one. I can only say what I think is right about our forum, but as can often happen we may read posts and take a completely different meaning to the one which the writer wished. I am sorry if I got it wrong and your reply was written in a normal friendly manner.

Sometimes it is good to hear personal experiences. The web can be a bit of a minefield when it comes to reliable information.

I've not been to Istanbull, but have been to a couple of other places and found them very nice, but they were holiday destinations not a city which can be very different this website is quite a good one Scotkat www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Tourism-g293974-Istanbul-Vacations.html. I know my son went a while back, I'll ask him and see what he says
