I picked up a grow your own Venus fly trap from the pound shop. It consisted of a little terracotta pot, some planting medium and five seeds. I thought it was just going to be a bit gimmicky but two have germinated. The seeds might still turn out to be something complete different, they don’t look anything like the fully grown plant. I’ll take more photos as they grow.

They are very different, I was wondering how these would change into the parent.
The kit I bought had two packets of seeds in it so I sowed them in two different pots, both lots of seedlings look the same. They have germinated from the supplied seeds, I wonder what they are going to be.

I bought my seed kit from the CO OP, a little terracotta pot, two bags containing seed, and a strange compost. Both seeds germinated, but look nothing like a venus fly trap! Researching, I found your post. My seedlings look like yours. I notice the date was a few years ago, so hoping you are still here I would like to ask the question .... "What did they grow to be "? It's a bit naughty that these are being sold as Fly Traps, when they clearly are not.

I got in touch with Sue who made the initial post in this thread, she says she did grow them on until they had a few true leaves but it was obvious they were just weeds so didn't grow them any further than that

I've got seedlings that look just like these ones growing now. I too bought them at the pound shop. I was curious as to whether they would become Venus fly trap plants as I too thought they didn't look like Venus fly trap. Looks like I'm growing weeds!

We have a venus fly trap, occasionally it puts out a tiny baby plantlet and I can assure you it looks nothing like those lol!
My husband bought some crocus bulbs in tiny pots for myself and my Mum from the bargain shop, both lots didn't grow. Have told him not to buy me 'grow your own' kits either now!

Hi, i have suddenly become obsessed with growing carnivorous plants and recently spotted this "Beautiful Garden Grow Your Own Venus Fly Trap" along with many other "Grow your own" products at the pound shop. I was mega excited and purchased two of the venus fly trap ones. I was hesitant at first that they would even germinate, I took great pride and care into looking after them. After a few weeks two germinated. I nourished them and after a few more weeks they started to develop more leaves, thats when I knew this product is a complete LIE! I cant believe it. Im sure this isnt the only fake product. I feel like writing a complaint! The packaging even comes with a ****** guarantee. I know i am reacting over the top, but i was so excited and I could have been raising and growing real venus fly traps all this time if i had brought real seeds. Guess its what i deserve after trusting this chepo fake product. Folks dont trust this product. It lies. Stupid "Beautiful Garden" more like fake garden full of lies and misery.

Welcome to the forum xx1calum1xx. You have added another to the tale of woe concerning the Venus Fly Trap. We don't complain on behalf of members, but perhaps you should do this. It is fraud really. Please enjoy our forum anyway.
