I know lots of you on here have cats or dogs. The various vacuum cleaners we have had over the years have been pretty naff at picking up all the cat hair so I wondered if anyone can thoroughly recommend a good one before OH spends another hundred quid or so. She's currently got her eye on a Vax power 2 pet upright. With currently down to 4 cats plus an occasional visitor we do get a fair amount of pet hair.

We have a Dyson - it's the one recommended for pet hair. It certainly fills up with Henry's hair remarkably quickly, so it must work.

It's an upright one, and it's colour-coded, yes, really. It has a purple handle, which denotes it as one especially for pet hair. It also comes with an attachment for the hose - we haven't needed to use that.

I too have a Dyson and have had it for about 10 years, it's as good now as when i first bought it. I've no idea which specific one it is though - it's got yellow and purple on it, that's all i can say - and it's fairly heavy but, if it does a good job you just out-up with those things.
There are so many Dysons on the market now that you could go crazy trying to understand them all.

We have the Dyson for pet hair too. We bought it 10 years ago and at Christmas it had a sort of clutch thing put in at the bottom which enables you to tilt the base. The filters get washed out under the tap very occasionally, and we have spent nothing on it except that fitting which my young son did. We have a Dyson in the Arcon shed and the caravan too. These were obtained by my son from a friend, so they are not new but he did them up. I hate vacuuming. The Church has a 'Henry' and I hate, hate, hate it.

My brother bought one of those floydie, it was absolutely useless. I'm sure if you lived in one of those sterile, minimalistic houses they might work.
When I win the lotto I'm getting someone in that 'does'. ;D

We have a dyson, advertised for pet hairs, tried a few vacuum cleaners over the years, but this one is the best we have ever had.

We have a Miele cylinder cleaner SP, had it 6 years and no problems. Ours isn't the one for pet hairs but I know they do one. Miele have topped the Which? magazine best vacuum cleaner list fairly regularly.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. Unfortunately confusion still reigns supreme i guess its like most things. Some love them and others detest them. Not too happy about forking out over £300.00 for a Dyson if it turned out to be not up to the job although it looks like we may have to. I've bought cars for less and got good mileage out of them. oh well, that's life.
