I must say I think it is great the members and posts the Dahlia section is attracting....I only grow a few myself but to see that section growing as it is is fantastic!

Sort of, but I didn't want to disrupt their threads

I think we owe Alisonmarie a big thank you for starting the original Dahlia thread.
We have more and more experienced dahlia growers joining us now. We now need a new section for the first time growers in the dahlia thread, because we the experienced growers maybe are getting to technical and we leave other growers behind, and we should not forget we were in that situation once.

Do you mean a new thread which you can start yourself in the dahlia section or a completely new section above or below the dahlia section titled 'beginners or first time growers' ?

I don't think it should be separate from the dahlia thread, itself. We already have different sections within it we can add on a section for first time growers under a novice section. Someone like WF may like to start one off, WF is what i would call a first time grower in dahlias, who would like to place a entry in a local show, so this would be ideal for questions and receive answers from the more experienced forum members.

I have to admit that the technical bits are way over my head. I just want to grow some lovely flowers for my garden, and advice on how is appreciated.

Perhaps I should be honest here and say that I have to rely on other novices for advice in a personal capacity and when WF had piccies and questions which suited me, they immediately got lost again. I have just planted some yesterday without knowing, even what size pot to put them in. I used 1 1/2 litres and now I think they are planted too close, so must change them.

I watched Monty Don cutting out the growing points of his Dahlias on GW - I haven't done that, because I want flowers for my open days...but I wondered whether our experts cut them as far back as he did. I have some kept back for my plant stall - should I do those?

Me too geranium, they are such pretty flowers ;D Like Geranium and Rosie I only want to grow Dahlias for the garden, and until I started reading Tel's posts I hadn't even attempted them as they seemed to me to be "difficult". But knowing there is "an expert" on hand to give advice if I get a problem makes all the difference, so I'm trying a few this year. I think a Novice Section is a great idea
