My instinctive response is rather like Louise's, I'd tie the culprit to railings with a note explaining what they had done and leave her/him overnight......alone!

The frustrating thing about this country of ours is that the punishment comes nowhere near the crime and people like me are branded right wing for saying "an eye for an eye" like in Iran. No of cause I don't mean that literally but most crime is committed in the knowledge that the punishment will be mild as the perpetrators know about their 'human rights'
