I'm surprised that a Golden Retriever would kill a lamb, but I suppose instinct took over. When Henry was about a year old, he saw sheep for the first time. They ran, so did he, and I fell flat on my face because he was on the lead! ;D

It would, and would be even more likely to do this if there were two together because then a 'pack' mentality takes over.

Yes, I've heard that before, Cherry. As my son-in-law is always saying - 'He's a dog!'. I see the dominant male emerge when he meets his friends in the fields. It's interesting.

I couldn't believe this when Graham told me the story.... He and a guy at work were talking about cars, this chap is like 22 and he was asking what kind of car we have so Graham told him, then he told him the story of how our red Yaris got written off after we hit a stag coming over Glenshee.... The guy said 'Whats a stag' Graham was kind of taken a back and thought he was joking so he said you know a big animal with huge antlers, runs wild on the scottish moors.....He still looked blank. The guy didn't have a clue what a stag is What are kids being taught at school these days, this guy allegedly has a degree in English.

Pathetic! But please don't blame teachers - that's the sort of thing he should learn from his parents. They can't have taken him out on trips into the countryside, can they!

Ohh i would never blame a teacher Geranium, i admire people who become teachers esp these days with some of the little darlings they have to teach. Some kids just don't want to learn either. I used to work in a primary school so i know what a hard time some teachers actually have and what they have to deal with on a day to day basis

Rosie the radio presenter on Saturday did not know what 'bovine' meant.
That person you mention should have known what a "stag" is because of where he lives, and an English degree would mean reading. I can't imagine it.

Why do schools always get the blame? General Knowledge is just that, if you aren't interested in things you won't learn about them. I know what a stag is - but not a Yaris

No Blossom. Schools are not to blame for lack of general knowledge. Parents are usually to blame.

A lot of parents think it's the teachers job to do their (the parents') job !

Too true, Louise. Some of 'my' parents refused to hear their children read at home because they said it was the teachers' job to teach their children to read. Yes, fine on the surface, but those children lagged behind the others who had co-operative parents.
