I have never had the awful experience of having the black bin stolen. I fill it up so that the refuse truck doesn't have to stop every week, so picture all the little bin bags an odd plant pot and various bits and pieces, and this morning I found it scattered all over the drive and the black bin missing. Today it rained after so long with almost dry weather, so all the little bags were wet. It was great fun picking this lot up and packing them into dog food bags. I don't know how to deter thieves from doing this again because it will be a nice shiny new bin next time.

That's really strange Cherry, I wonder what they stole it for?

it could have been someone on their way home from celebrating too much, it's amazing what can go missing. It might be that someone will wake up and find a black bin sitting in their bedroom

More than likely drunken party goers.

I have never had the awful experience of having the black bin stolen. The kind of person who would steal a bin is the kind of person who would not look after their own. We will repair or replace any containers which are damaged by the collection operatives free of charge. If you have lost, had stolen or damaged the container yourself there will be a charge to replace these. Council web site The average cost of a bin is £40. All I can suggest is you don't put it out until the morning of the collection and bring it back in straight after. It is a bit of a nuisance, especially if you are the first on a round.

Yes WF. They start at 0700 and we are one of the first, but I think I will just have to do this.
The council were very good and sent the truck around especially to take the bags and they are getting a new one sent after I sign their form. The lady apologized for this form, but some people get them quite a few times and get known as regulars. There are all sorts aren't there?

I know its not funny, but this bit amused me ...how on earth do you "lose" a dustbin I wonder

We refused the 'kind' offer of a wheelie bin as it would be so far to get it from the back to the gate. We still put out a black sack (fortnightly). However, we have two new boxes for recycling, one of which was broken to pieces by the collectors on its first collection day! To be fair, another one was delivered within a few days. We have painted the name of our house on each of the boxes.

I will have the bin ready beside the house and take it up at 0600 when I take the dogs out. A neighbour asked me today if someone tipped my bin over. He did not notice that there was no bin.
