It's an ill wind and all that Floydie but I'm sure it'll be for the best. Personally I think that where you and your family live is far more important than the house you live in. You're already hooked on gardening (and it shows) so you'll pick up the trowel wherever you go. "Onwards and upwards"

six years is a long time floydie, just look on this as a project to improve your house to sell, keep your 'special' plants easily moveable. When we moved here I dug out all my plants that I wanted and kept them potted up long before we put the house on the market that way the garden looked mature the gaps were filled with annuals. I needn't have bothered though, they ripped it all out I'd move again quite happily but OH prefers to stay where he is ;D

Floydie, I think I would concentrate on growing plants that are good at seeding themselves around the garden such as: poppies, foxgloves, forget-me-nots, aquilegia, honesty, perrenial cornflower to name a few. This way you will always have plenty of colourful plants with minimal cost. I would also plant evergreens such as euonymus and box as you can easily take cuttings from these but leave the original plant in when you leave. Ice plant (sedum) is another plant that you can easily take a piece away but leave the main plant in. Also grow bulbs in pots which can be placed around the garden as desired but easily taken with you. Just do not give up growing plants!! ;D
