When I was little I remember a certain flower growing in our garden and I was fascinated by it. It grew over by the shed, and nobody ever noticed it, although it was very pretty - well I thought so anyway.
My father wasn't a keen gardener, he just planted a few rows of vegetables which seemed to send him very annoyed lol. My mother only ever went down the garden to peg clothes on the line !
So over the years lots of things disappeared because they were not being looked after, and that included this flower which I was fascinated by.
As I grew older and became interested in the garden, I remembered the flower that grew over by the shed, and wished it was still there.
Nobody knew it's name. In fact when I used to ask mam or dad about it they didn't even remember seeing it. They used to say 'nothing like that ever grew here' - but it did !
As time went on I started to think I had imagined the flower. It did look a bit strange after all, not like a usual flower with petals, but more like a big fat pink catkin. I never saw it anywhere else - not in any gardens, nor in any garden centres either. It just didn't seem to exist.
However, a few years ago I managed to find out what it was called, by searching on my computer and it's name is SANGUISORBA ;D
Can you imagine how excited I was to have found it after about 50 years lol !!
So I HAD to get one for my garden ;D ;D and sent for it on line ;D
Now this July it is starting to flower again in my garden, and always reminds me of the old shed where I saw it growing first, in my childhood days all those years ago
Here it is - Sanguisorba hakusanensis ......
