I'm doing a little more work on the new border and have gotten to the point were i wish i hadn't started . Ive dug down and took all the grass from my side but this is coming trough the fence from next door Now Ive removed some of the bricks (still ongoing) and dug out lots of grass roots . I'm going to put the bricks back when I'm done, but how am i going to stop it creeping back in I don't want it to take over the border or to be constantly pulling grass roots out .

Grass roots (and more significantly the rhizomes) are relatively shallow, not usually going down more than six inches. If you put a barrier to a depth of around eight inches, this should sort out any creeping types. You can get heavy duty black plastic rhizome barrier though this might well be a bit over the top for this.
If I was you, I would be tempted to carefully dig out a narrow channel at the divider between you and neighbour and fill it will concrete to said depth and the width of the bricks and then set the bricks on top. Easily done and should sort the creeping problem out.

I agree with Steve, a barrier sunk into the soil would sort the problem out. Builders damp proof would do the job. Do you have any building sites near you? They always have loads of off cuts laying around which I'm sure they would let you have if you asked nicely.

Floydie, that's a good lot of work you've done there, and those are really good ideas given by Steve and WF, definately what i'd do.

Right what ive done is dig out as much of the roots as I could, dig a trench, line it, fill it with soil then put the bricks back into this. Im not sure if i should line the rest of the bed as grass seeds went all over as i was pulling it out .

You will still have some grass coming up from bits of root you have missed but it should be easy to get rid of this. If the bed is bordering your grass I would line this too, the type of grass you have will sneak into your bed. It will be far easier to put a little extra work in now than to battle for ever more.

Ive finished one section (well for now until i want to put more plants in but it will do for now . Ive not lined right to the edge but near enough, all i need now is some flexi edging just to help keep the grass back.
