Our gardens fairly new and I've just finished digging over and wedding a new bed. Would it be best to leave it now till new year or does any one have recommendations what to put in now?

What sort of weeds lj?
I'd be tempted to plant asap if you think you have removed all the weeds. Depending on aspect of course, I'd think about plants that you know you would really want and work out from there.
Will this bed need to tie in to any existing beds or is it completely stand alone?

I would leave it a few weeks and spray any weeds that pop up. If its an area that hasn't been used for a while with poor soil/ or if you want to wait until spring to start planting sow some green manure (what I'm doing in the front . If you do this in the next month or so you will have cut it back and dug it in just in time for planting spring bulbs . What plans do you have for this bed??

Weeds were mainly grass and dandelions etc hoping (fingers crossed) there is no bind weed. I've been keeping an eye on it for a couple of weeks and turning it over and have dug some compost in as the soils so poor. Its the end of a new build garden but there was previously a Boots warehouse and they just used to chuck out the back any spillages which is smack bang where our garden is so has taken a lot to make anything grow!
Its a stand along bed, fairly protected and it sun most of the day & evening. Whats green manure?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_manure . If its mostly grass then you may have the same problem as me down the line (Im still pulling bits of grass out from between my plants : . I would be tempted to leave it awhile just to be sure its all gone or failing that line the bed .

See this is where I struggle with gardening - huge lack of patience and wanting it all to appear NOW! lol am working on it though. Still pulling up bits of grass from between the beds which have been here two years and were raised. Spent ages nurturing a lovely plant only for it to turn how to be a huge weed!

I've got plants which most folk would categorise as weeds but I let them grow and flower if I like them and in the wilder part of the garden they are actually encouraged as they are beneficial to insect life. I include hogweed and ragweed and willowherb plus foxgloves and some flowers I haven't a clue what they are but when the parachute seeds start to develop I cut them off so they don't spread too much.

I have the same problem , if you go down the green manure route leave some of it growing until it starts to die back, it will flower and attract lots of insects and some look fairly pretty . Look on Ebay if you do go for it you can combine postage from the same sellers so you can mix and match .

They do quite like the look of phacelia and crimson clover. Do i just scatter seeds and leave or do I need to weed it etc?

The others will be fine, they may self seed once flowering is over but just cut the seedlings down/dig them into the soil . Comfrey is hard to get rid of once youve got it.

I don't usually have the patience to wait and I really pay the price with weeds everywhere. I have started a new bed and I am digging a hole where I dump a barrowload of apples, and then use the soil from the next piece along to put on top and do the same again and all the way along. This won't be ready to plant for a few weeks.
