"This is the dawning of the age of austerious" a tune I can't get out of my head ! Cuts cuts and cuts, which though I fully approve of are starting to affect us in so many ways. Some bargains about at the garden centres, trouble is I've no more room! The one sector that seems to be booming is smartphones, apparently they're selling like hot cakes. Last Saturday my new car broke down while we were off to the coast. The 'Little Chef' like me had no phone! The waitress asked a customer if I could use his smartphone. He had to google the number and then dial it as I hadn't a clue how! This started me thinking, do I need one? The cost is (to me) astronomical! but according to the news 1/4 of smartphones accept calls while on the loo! The other day I while walking Barnaby I came across 2 young and very pretty girls, now normally their heads would be turned....not me anymore, sadly, but by my hairy friend. Much to my dismay ney disappointment, they were far to busy twiddling with their smartPhones. How many of you have an smartPhone and what do you use it for?

I'm still living with the dinosaurs, I have a phone which makes phone calls, a camera which takes photos and a computer which sends emails, a Hi-Fi which plays music, all of them do their job easily and exceptionally well and all of them get switched off when I'm not using them.
I consider that very smart ;D

I'm a dinosaur too - my phone makes & takes calls, and I could text on it if I knew how. That's it. No camera or radio on it. I have a camera, and a radio/CD player if I want music.

I'm definitely not 'smart'. I have a 'pay as you go' mobile (only used for emergencies/occasionally) and for receiving texts/messages. I do know how to send them but its easier to email! A camera for photos and computer for emails, a radio/CD player for music. If I had a SmartPhone I wouldn't use it properly, so there's no point in spending the money ;D

On Jeremy Vine on Radio 2 this morning they were discussing how many folks smashed up their smart phones. Apparently they can become very intrusive. My mobile is now changed to pay as you go as no longer needed for work. Still get too many texts from Orange.

My son used his I-pod to book his seat number on the aeroplane. They don't seem to issue tickets if you have one of these.

Well, I have a smartphone. Very useful as all my emails come in to it (as well as my pc). It has a lot of features, some of which I have admittedly barely ventured into for fear of never returning! Took me about six months to get over its newness and stop picking it up every five minutes. It has now just become a plain phone to me which is after all what its supposed to be at the end of the day

Somehow I don't think I'll be investing in one, people will only ring me up without offering to take me out for a free meal or taking me out for a nice ride to the coast, they'll probably want something from me. A friend of mine, yes I have at least one! has a pay as you go phone, a thingy that shows his pics and a thing that you can (instantly) get on the internet with. trouble is you have to be in a wi-fi zone. It's free once you've bought it though.
