Hi Lou We have a discovery tree at my parents, its been there since when they moved in over twenty years ago and they dont do anything to the tree but the apples still keep coming by the bucket load

My James Grieve apple tree has just arrived...looks a nice well shaped one. Glad it arrived before the really bad weather

And as today is National apple day ..did you know all Bramleys originate from a local tree now 200 years old and still going strong! near us in Southall Notts

My James Grieve apple tree has just arrived...looks a nice well shaped one. Glad it arrived before the really bad weather You should be pleased with James Grieve Lou. This is one of my favourite apples and I grow it among others. I also have a huge Discovery, but I don't eat any of these. They taste too 'winey' for me, but they are pretty because of the red colour and they are early which is useful.

This is one of my favourite apples and I grow it among others. I also have a huge Discovery, but I don't eat any of these. They taste too 'winey' for me, but they are pretty because of the red colour and they are early which is useful. It is popular "up here" even though prone to scab.....Interesting what you say about Discovery....apparently the flavour improves if left on the tree for a while......time will tell.....it will be a few years before I get a reasonable crop from either of them. PS:....I do like wine
