I've seen those ornamental cabbages in the GS and never quite saw the point. Now I understand, they do look stunning in your pots Sue. Are they hardy? They're not really hardy here W.F. they last a few months but they usually give up the ghost if we have a period of very hard frost or snow & I replace them with something else.

Just had to show you this, I found a stem of tayberry which had snapped & when I pulled it free there were flowers & fruits on the ends of the branches coming off it! In December! ;D I've pushed the stem into a pot to see if it will root & survive but I think it'll just wilt now, shame I could have had tayberries at Christmas! Photos are a bit blurry, it was breezy, I was holding them but shaking! ;D

My acer lost its leaves some time ago, the only flowers in the garden now are primulas, primroses, pansies, violas and one of the Hellebores

Black eyed Susan bit the dust during last nights frost.
All of my other acers lost their leaves a long time ago, this one is quite sheltered.

As i walked down the garden path this morning i was surprised to see miniature roses blooming, schizostylis too, alstros, clematis, and .... can't remember its name ... something 'juncum' - it's little faces were open showing the silver centres. Amazing seeing as it was only 5 degrees out there !!! Will take pics tomorrow
